Week 6 Meeting Minutes: Thank you everyone who joined our week six meeting! We were able to hear from Joan from The Princeton review. She was able to provide us with fantastic information on how to get into medical school. She went into great detail about what the MCAT is and the process of taking the MCAT. Along with the 15 AAMC core competency and helpful tips on making your application for medical school. She also mentioned all the great resources and deals they have for studnets.
Week 4 Meeting Minutes: Thank you everyone who joined our week four meeting! We had the privilege of having David from Fountain Valley Regional Hospital as a guest speaker. He is a patient experience manager and coordinates their volunteer program for students. He talked about how volunteers are a vital part of the healthcare team and the skills and knowledge that you can acquire in the program is very useful for students’ futures. They have a junior volunteer program and a college student program both of which accept volunteers all year long. College volunteers can gain experience in the hospital’s main lobby for outpatient and in-patient care floors working with nurses to help comfort patients. We also had Anna who is a nursing student and was a former health scholar talk about her experiences in the COPE Health Scholar Program, healthcare careers and school. Please join us again next week for another informative and valuable meeting.

Week 4 Meeting Minutes: Thank you to everyone who joined our week four meeting. This week we had a Jasmine, a representative from the Princeton Review, joining our meeting to talk about the differences between MD and DO. We discussed the application processes for MD and DO schools as well as what GPA and MCAT scores we should aim for. Jasmine also went over how to prepare for the MCAT and the things we can do to increase our chances of getting accepted into a medical school.
Week 6 Meeting Minutes: Thank you to everyone who joined our week six meeting. This week we had a representative from COPE Health Scholars joining us and talked about their volunteering programs. Our speaker went over the details about what you would do and the benefits you could earn from being a volunteer. We also discussed the application process as well as how we should approach the interview.
Week 8 Meeting Minutes: Thank you to everyone who joined our week eight meeting. This week we had a Letter of Recommendation Workshop and talked about how we should ask for a letter of recommendation letter from professors. Kavisha went over the importance of LORs, how many we need, who to ask, and how to ask them. We also looked at some example emails asking for a LOR from professors and provided some useful tips at the end of the meeting for our members. This was our last meeting of the quarter, and we would like to say thank you to all who attended our meetings these past quarters. Good luck on your finals and we will see you again next year!

Week 4 Meeting Minutes: Thank you to everyone who joined our week four meeting. This week we had a Letter of Recommendation Workshop and talked about how we should ask for a letter of recommendation letter from professors. During the meeting, we also mentioned the Winter Involvement Fair as well as the Board Internship Application that will be sent out towards the end of the quarter. If you are interested in a leadership position that will help your resume stand out more, be sure to keep an eye out for our application form! Next week we will have a LinkedIn/Resume Workshop presented by a representative from The Princeton Review. We hope to see you all at the Involvement Fair and at our next meeting!

We talked about the proper ways to format a resume and what we should put in our resumes to keep them as simple and informative as possible. We also discussed how to set up our LinkedIn accounts and how to expand our connections. Next week, we will have a representative from COPE Health Scholars joining us to talk about their volunteering programs.

As a reminder, our Board Internship Application will be available at the beginning of week 10 and due by Friday night of finals week. If you are interested in joining the board and gaining some leadership experience, we strongly recommend you all to join the PHA family! This was also our last meeting of the quarter. During the presentation the members were given detailed information about the club and they were able to learn about the nature of the club. The board members were introduced, the schedule of the club was discussed and the students' questions were answered at the end of the meeting. Also the members were notified that they are eligible for a discount for Princeton review books. For next week we are scheduled to have a speaker from COPE Health Scholars to come and talk about their volunteering opportunities and how new members can apply to the program. We talked about efficient ways to study for the MCAT and went over the what each section of the exam would be like. On week 8 we will have a research workshop where our board members will provide the resources and talk about how to get into a research program.

We also went over some research opportunities specific for Bio major Public Health major. At the end of the meeting, our board members shared their own experience in their research labs and answered questions from out members. There will be no more meetings for the rest of the quarter.
