Spring Quarter 2021 - Week 8 General Meeting, 5/19/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week eight meeting. We hope that everyone is prepared for the upcoming finals. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a Q&A that was moderated by the Pre-Health Alliance board members (Clarense Tahmasian, Giulianna Zelaya, Roxan Mansoori). The questions asked by the board members were answered by former members of our club who are currently medical school students. Our members were able to learn about the admission process and how to prepare their resumes to have a higher chance of admittance. Our members were also given specific details about researching aspects of the medical school resumes and how they should approach it for optimum results. Details about the Medical College Admission test were discussed and our members were given a rough estimate about the grades and test scores that are required for the top medical schools in the United States of America. Spring Quarter 2021 - Week 6 General Meeting, 5/5/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week six meeting. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation made by Chief Rouel Augustin who is a medical officer at the U.S Navy. During the presentation, our members were able to learn about different medical programs and different ways they can apply for each program. Chief Rouel Augustin also presented the students with a detailed description of the requirements needed for the medical programs offered by the U.S Navy. Spring Quarter 2021 - Week 4 General Meeting, 4/21/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week four meeting. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation made by Kamiyar Bagheri. In this presentation, our members were able to learn about the process of finding opportunities for shadowing and how shadowing can be beneficial for students that are planning to go to medical school or dental school. During the second half of the meeting, we had the honor and privilege of having doctor Shahram Shariyarpour who is a dentist as a guest in our club. Our members were able to learn about the process of becoming a dentist in detail and they were given specific instructions on how to enhance their resume for a higher chance of acceptance. Different case studies were presented during this half and ultimately our members had a chance to ask questions. Spring Quarter 2021 - Week 2 General Meeting, 4/7/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our second meeting of the spring quarter! This week we had a guest speaker from the Princeton Review Joan Martin that talked about the GRE. We were able to learn more about the GRE test, see some practice problems, and uses of taking the GRE! Hopefully members were able to gain more information about the GRE test and can take advantage of the discount PHA members get for being a partner with the Princeton Review! Spring Quarter 2021 - Week 1 General Meeting, 3/31/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our first meeting of the spring quarter !!! We hope that everyone is prepared to start the quarter strong. During the first half of the meeting, our board members went over the resources that are available to all of the students specifically the students that are considering going to medical and graduate school. Our members were given specific instructions on how to utilize the resources available to them for optimal results. During the second half of the meeting, we had an excellent opportunity to listen to a presentation by the “Research Outreach Program” club, where during this half of the meeting our members were given tips on how to apply for different research labs at the University of California Irvine to increase their admission chances. Winter Quarter 2021 - Week 8 General Meeting, 2/22/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week eight meeting. This week the pre-health alliance club partnered with the t-RNAsfer club to listen to a valuable presentation by Sangwoo Han and Haytham Efarrah who are MD/Ph.D. students. During their presentation, our club members had an opportunity to ask various questions about these two sophisticated and talented students’ journey. A lot of details about research and clinical experience were discussed during the meeting and our members were presented with statistical data that was extremely beneficial for all of the students that want to go to medical school. The students were provided with the emails of the guest speakers to ask questions about the journey of our guest speakers and how they became successful students. Overall this week’s meeting provided our members with valuable and helpful information that they can utilize to improve their medical school application. Winter Quarter 2021 - Week 6 General Meeting, 2/8/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week six meeting. This week we had an excellent opportunity to listen to an excellent presentation prepared by the president of the club that covered the career statistics of physicians. The members of the club also had a chance to learn about the requirements that need to be met in order to become a physician. During the second half of the meeting, the students had an opportunity to listen to Professor Kelli Sharp who is a doctor, researcher, and professor at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Sharp talked about her journey of becoming a doctor, professor, and researcher. After her presentation, our students had a chance to ask questions. The presentation was extremely useful for all of the members due to the fact that doctor Sharp had a unique approach to earn her degrees. Overall our members are learning new strategies every week to improve their medical school applications and our board members are working hard to help the students to succeed. Winter Quarter 2021 - Week 4 General Meeting, 1/25/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week four meeting. We hope that everyone is doing well in their classes and preparing for their upcoming midterms. During the first half of the meeting, Mr. Alteza went over the career statistics, and sample pathways that were extremely useful for our pharmacy major members. During the second half of the meeting, we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation by a group of student pharmacists from the University of Southern California. During this presentation, our members learned about different actions and techniques that they need to utilize if someone overdoses on drugs. Our students learned how to properly dispose of medications. Also, our members were given tips on how to improve their applications. At the end of the presentation, our members were tested on the material by playing a game called “Kahoot”. Winter Quarter 2021 - Week 2 General Meeting, 1/11/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our week two meeting. During the first half of the meeting, the club’s president Mr. Alteza gave a valuable presentation about the housing applications that were due on Wednesday (01/20/2021). Mr. Alteza provided our members with useful tips that students can utilize to improve their application. He also went over the importance of scholarships and how students can increase their chances of receiving scholarships by paying attention to small details such as grammar and spelling. During the second half of the meeting, we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation by Andy Watkins who graduated from Harvard University. Mr. Watkins talked about their program which is called “AMAF” which was founded on January 18, 2020, and he explained to our members how different students can utilize their resources to be more successful as students. Winter Quarter 2021 - Week 1 General Meeting, 1/4/2021 Thank you to everyone who joined our first meeting of the winter quarter !!! We hope that everyone is adjusting well to remote learning during these tough times. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation about medical schools’ admission process by Kristine from the Princeton Review. In this presentation, our members were provided with a roadmap that highlighted the important steps that each student must take to become an excellent candidate for medical school that he/she wants to attend. Also, the students were informed that they can get discounts due to our club’s partnership with the Princeton Review team which is a great opportunity for all of our members that are working hard towards their goal of attending medical school and becoming doctors. Additionally, we went over our schedule and future plans for the club in the first half of the meeting so all of our members are aware of our club’s goal and mission. Fall Quarter 2020 - Week 8 General Meeting, 11/23/2020 Thank you to everyone who joined our week eight meeting! This week we had an excellent opportunity to listen to our exceptional guest speaker, Nilou Rohani. Niloufar Rohani is currently a fourth year at Baylor College of Medicine and was invited to talk about her journey due to the unprecedented approach that got her into medical school. During the first half of the meeting, the students had a chance to learn about different strategies to prepare for the final. In this half students were given specific directions on how to approach their course material and how to succeed by using different strategies that are proven to work. In the second half of the meeting, the students had an opportunity to ask their questions from our guest speaker. In this meeting, the students learned that there are various ways that people can get into medical school and people that are attending medical school have taken different approaches and there is not only one specific way that works for everyone. Fall Quarter 2020 - Week 6 General Meeting, 11/9/2020 Thank you to everyone who joined our week six meeting! This week we had an opportunity for an enlightening presentation by two of our board members on various research programs available to pre-med students. Our members were provided with the class name and numbers and they were also given tips on how to get into each research program. Our board members went over an excellent program called “Excellence in Research” and explained to our members how being part of this program can increase their chance and help them to achieve their goal of attending medical school. At the end of the meeting, all of the members were given a chance to introduce themselves and ask any questions that they had regarding their journey to medical school. Fall Quarter 2020 - Week 2 General Meeting, 10/12/2020 Thank you everyone who joined our meeting this week! Hopefully everyone is doing well in the second week of Fall Quarter! This week we had four guest speakers from Keck Graduate Institute: Dr. Joon Kim, Taylor Carlson, Brandon Gordon, and Kaljit Atwal. They talked about the KGI school and their programs in biology and business, as well as sharing with us their experiences after undergrad. They explained that their program helps to enhance your academic application and to demonstrate to schools that you are fit for grad/med schools. Dr. Joon Kim and the KGI representatives also gave advice to all of us about life in general and our goals. At the end of the meeting, all the guest speakers answered questions from all of us about what KGI offers and other general questions. All in all, this was an informational meeting about the program and a guide to what to do after undergrad! Fall Quarter 2020 - Week 1 General Meeting, 10/5/2020 Thank you to everyone who joined our first meeting of Fall Quarter! We hope everyone is doing well during this historical challenging time. We are excited to start a new quarter filled with a lot of unique and extremely suitable opportunities for all of our members. In this meeting, we discussed research opportunities at UCI, Discounts for our board members, and regular club schedule. The board of directors went over different research opportunities and provided students with useful tips. The members of the pre-health Alliance club are eligible to use numerous discounts. We also went over our regular schedule for this quarter, and students were informed, that we meet on weeks one, two, four, six, and eight. All in all, this was an excellent informational meeting about a worthwhile program!
