Week 6 Meeting Minutes (02/09/2022) Thank you to everyone who joined our week six meeting. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation made by the president of the club-Nathan Alteza. During the presentation, our members were able to learn about recommendation letters. They were given tips on medical school applications and obtaining recommendation letters. After the presentation one of the former board members of the club- Kamyar Bagheri talked about his approach to dental school application and introduced the students to a website called “Interfolio”. He explained that the website can be useful if students want to keep their application papers organized. Ultimately the members had an opportunity to ask questions at the end and enhance their understanding of the medical and dental school applications. Week 4 Meeting Minutes (01/26/2022) Thank you to everyone who joined our week four meeting. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation by sensei Wayne Centra who is the founder of a program called “ Karate For ALL”. This program is designed to help the students to achieve their independence and potential. Additionally, sensei Wayne explained that their program is designed to empower their students to attain healthy bodies and minds. Moreover, students that volunteer to be part of this program will be able to receive a letter of recommendation by sensei Wayne which can be utilized on the medical school application. At the end of the presentation, our members were given time to ask questions and learn more about the program. Week 8 Meeting Minutes (11/15/2021) Thank you to everyone who joined our week eight meeting. This week we had a chance to listen to a presentation made by the representatives of the Princeton review team. The presentation covered the logistics of the MCAT exam. The representative talked about the number of the questions, topics and also specific strategies to perform well on the exam. There were numerous examples of MCAT questions on the presentation that were previously utilized on the exam to make sure that the students are familiar with the format of the exam before taking the actual test. Our members had a chance to consult with the Princeton review specialist about the issues that they faced during their previous attempts. Ultimately our members were informed about a special discount for the princeton review program only available to the pre-health alliance members. Week 2 Meeting Minutes (10/4/2021) Thank you to everyone who joined our week two meeting. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation made by the Legacy Archive Foundation. Legacy Archive Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to foster intergenerational communication and preserve insightful stories by connecting the senior citizens to the students. The executive director of the organization explained the mission of their organization and how students can learn and help the community by joining this organization. He also explained that he started this organization due his personal experience as a caregiver. Research opportunities related to aging were also presented to our members. At the end of the presentation our members had an opportunity to ask questions and sign up for the organization. Week 1 Meeting Minutes (9/27/2021) Thank you to everyone who joined our week one meeting. This week we had an opportunity to listen to a valuable presentation made by the president of the club-Nathan Alteza. During the presentation the members were given detailed information about the club and they were able to learn about the nature of the club. The board members were introduced, the schedule of the club was discussed and the students' questions were answered at the end of the meeting. Also the members were notified that they are eligible for a discount for princeton review books. The Pre-Health Alliance club is scheduled to have guest speakers from medical schools and workshops to help the students that are planning to attend medical school.
